5 Tips for New Parents

I recently went to visit Baby Diego!! at 7 pounds he is a healthy and beautiful baby boy! Congratulations! to my friends Blanca & Diego!
Welcome to parenthood!

With that I dedicate this post to them!

They have entered the bliss of parenthood. a Tiny human being is completely vulnerable and dependent  on  them. The world has completely changed for them. his true love has arrive to this world.

The routines will go from diaper change, feeding, sleeping and probably some crying in between. There are millions of websites with plenty of advise but I want to share my 2cents.  Also Blanca & Diego  come from a very close nitch loving families, so I'm sure they have a lot of family support. Yet here are some of the things that helped me the most when my baby Ana Karina was born.

Here they are:

  1. Relay on each other as parents to make decisions.
  2. Ask you pediatrician how to correctly measure the babies temperature.
  3. Trust your  instincts as Mother & as a Father no one can beat that.
  4. Sleep when the baby sleeps.
  5. And always remember the 4 S's   ( didn't make this up they come form a long line of mom, pediatricians and i think everyone tries them instinctively at one point.)
  • Shhhh
  • sound will calm the baby
  • Swaddle your baby.                                                                                          It will make him feel like his is back in mommy's tummy and secure
  • Sing to your baby
  • He loves mommy and daddies voice.
  • Swing your baby
  •   the swing was amazing for my baby but you can rock him

Here is a how to Swaddling image.  & a Great Video on how to swing your baby on your knees.

I hope this post helps a Mom & Dad out there!

Once again Congratulations New Parents Blanca & Diego!

Much love,

Anny.

My favorite Pregnancy Movies

My favorite pregnancy/baby movies are  "Babies" & "The Business of being born"

I could give you the summary of each movie but I hope that you take the time to see these movies in an objective way; and form your own opinions.

The first movie the "Babies" I loved! it was relaxing and eye opening on how babies develop in any type of environment and thrive and live healthy lives as long as there is love. And even when we think to judge how a kid is being raised across the country babies are smarter than we think and all babies deserve to live in an enviroment filled with love. Mother nature is not a force to be reckon with and wiser than we can imagine.

Im sure you can find this movie on line, on youtube or on your local library even on any streaming movie provider (netflix, hulu, etc.) but just in case here is the link  i found:

http://focusfeatures.com/babies

"The busines of being born"The second movie I am recommending is a movie I stumble upon by accident. Right after I found out I was expecting I wanted to know everything! I mean everything about the delivery, what happens? why and what is it no one talks about it?
Well this movie was a big eye opening on the history on how birthing has evolved in the USA and the world i guess. It was a big way to start a conversation with my husband on what kind a doctor and hospital or venue we wanted to give birth to our baby.
This movie woke up a sense of " I must trust my doctor" If Im having an epidural I want it to be on my terms, when is an induction safer ? when is a C section my only option?..I made it my goal to be well informed so I could make the best decisions for me and my baby. I didn't automatically dismissed any options; it just opened my eyes a bit more.

Here is the link to that movie:

http://www.thebusinessofbeingborn.com

If there is something I learn is the more questions I asked the doctor the more comfortable i felt. Informing my self  the more knowledgeable I was the less I would  have to worry that special day. The  less questions I had that day the more focused I was on most important task in my  life, delivering my baby.
I hope this post helps some mom out there.
 Much love,

Anny.

Mom Cancels Everything or it seems that way these days

As a new Mom I have learned that life and the speed of every day life changed for ever after the arrival of my little bundle of  Joy. More often than not a Mother has to cancel her appointments, activities, engagements and family affairs because of some sort of baby situation.

Baby is sick
it is very polite not to bring your baby to a play date or reunion when sick. You are actually being considerate to the other children. This is common after having shots.

Baby is teething
We are currently in this state. and  it has been definitely the hardest thing since the first week of having her in my arms. the pain is excruciating and watching her go through it is worse.

Baby is napping
Ok for many parents is easy when you have your baby schedule mapped out and you have an awesome  baby that naps for hours and hours but for me is not  the case. I have an awesome baby that never naps or if she does she power naps.

And there is always the other facts like if its raining, if its too hot, if the lanes are too long (special in t he border crossing) and if the bird outside your window didn't sing in the morning and your baby is in a bad mood... ok maybe not that last one. What I'm trying to say I  love my friends and family a lot but sometimes a mother needs to make decisions like canceling and postponing commitments  for the sake of the baby. It doesn't mean we care any less for the people we love.

People that truly loves you will always understand.

This week I been canceling stuff left and right.. it has been specially hard and thank you  friends and family for understanding.

Thank you hubby for pushing through the sleepless nights...

Hope this post helps a mom out there.

Much love to all,

Anny.

The Playground 7 UnRules

I been taking my baby to the playground lately. I love it because I get my exercise done by walking there and she gets to see other children. She is not walking yet so she enjoys for the most part the slides with my help and mainly the swing!  I have notice she loves to bee with other children and she learns from the older ones so fast; as I been learning from other moms there. =)

Here are my 7 UnRules for the Playground

1. Bring sunscreen protect your baby's skin!

2. Don't bring your baby sick.

3. Don't be a germo-phobe you are at the playground! You  will not be able to clean the whole playground with wipes! ( I actually saw a mom trying to do this) wash hands once you leave.

4. Pick up your spills. If you bring milk, snacks, wipes, diapers pick up after your trash.

5. Wait for your turn but don't hover. If the swing is busy don't rush a "Mom/kid" out of the swing. You never know that might be her only break during the day.

6. Be considerate of other Parents and your baby will learn to be considerate of other babies.

7. Never leave someone else watching your child nor accept that request from anyone.

Well those are my "UnRules" from the top of my head!

Oh and for the New Mothers out there! you can bring your baby to the swings from the moment they can hold their head on their own! some what around 3 months. This is a great way to get some fresh air.

Well hope this information helps some moms out there!

Much love,

Anny.

10 Ways I Prepared My Dogs for The Baby’s Arrival

10 ways I prepared my Dogs for the Baby’s Arrival.

You know when we found out we were expecting one of the first changes we started implementing was with our two four legged babies!  Our beagles. The oldest one is Buster and Luna our little mischievous  beaglette.
Long before we ever planned or thought of having our baby we had decided that our dogs would be crate trained it made it very easy for us to travel everywhere with them and they always have had a spot of their own in our home. We never used the crates for negative reinforcement or as punishment but in the contrary left them open during the day. Always give them a treat when they go in and tuck them into bed (their crate) at night.

When the news that we were expecting was given to us, one of the first things that came to our minds was our beagles. We had always heard that we would either end up making them outside dogs and that we wouldn’t love them anymore  (I hated when people said that) I guess it is different for everyone. Each person defines the relationship that they want to have with their pets by the way they decide to take care of them.

Now I’ll get on to the good stuff what my husband and I worked on to prepare our dogs before the baby came.

1.The first thing we started to do was defining limits in the house. We got some baby gates in our room and the baby’s room.  At the beginning we didn’t close them we just put them up on the doors for them to get familiar with.  After a few weeks passed we started closing the gates only letting them in when called in and giving them treats when we came out and when they didn’t whimper.

2.Then we started setting a consistent routine: What time they got food, what time they got walked, how often. It sounds like a lot of work, but when the baby arrived it helped millions!! Talking with my hubby we agreed he would be doing most of the walking and taking care of them at the beginning since a newborn takes most of the energy and time from mommy the first couple of months!   I would suggest talking with your significant other about it and make sure to get your pet(s) acquainted to anyone that will help you walk them, family, neighbors, etc.

3. I started to set up the baby room early on making sure they understood a new space had to be taken under consideration, respected and it was going to be out limits for them. Setting up the baby’s room before its arrival let them know I was going to be spending time in there with out paying so much attention to them.

4. I had notice when walking them they would be startled by strollers! So I made it one of my missions to make sure they loved the stroller. As soon as I got it I put it up in the middle of the house. First they where a bit scared of it after a day I put some treats between the wheels and the lower parts of the stroller. After a couple of days we went outside for a walk with them and the strollers! It confused our neighbors for a little bit thought the baby had come early! At the end I really only cared that I was getting our beagles ready and our selves. It eventually became practice for me to be able to walk both dogs alone with the baby! It’s been great!
If you have neighbors with babies and strollers or toddlers see how your dogs reacts to them. Our beagles were always curious to smell but very submissive to kids so that made us feel comfortable. Not that I was trying things out with others people children. I just hadn’t notice those little details until we were expecting.

5. Before the baby I use to travel with my husband and the 2 beagles would ride in the back seat. So that changed when I put the car seat up I started to show them how to ride in the back of our SUV. Patience and treats helped me with that change since they were use to riding in the back seat since 6-8 weeks old. But it happened and now the love riding in the back; they even jump in themselves.

6.I started to play baby sounds and even baby cries (I found them on YouTube). It was something I did when I was alone with them. Since is something I thought was going to happen sooner o later, and it did. I don’t know if this really helped them or me get use to the crying but I did it so thought I should share.

7. I gradually started spending time in the house separate from my beagles.  I knew when the baby arrived it would probably be this way for a while.  It was very hard for me more then them. But when the baby arrived it was great they didn’t notice a difference. I guess that is why they never became jealous of her cause the changes came before the baby and now I'm reaping the benefits seeing her crawl and tug at them and all she gets from them is kisses and belly’s up. I’m glad they don’t recent her.

8. When the baby arrived I made sure my husband gave one of the babies onsies that had warn at the hospital before the day we arrived home so they would get use to the smell of her and left it in the crates for them to sleep with it over night.

9. When we got our second beagle Luna, we made sure Buster our first Beagle would meet her in a neutral place out side the house. So I thought it should be the same with the baby; when the baby arrived my husband took the dogs to the dog park and that is were I arrived with the baby. They were very curious and jumpy but I think it made it more familiar for them when we brought them all home.

10. Once in the house settled with the baby My husband and I started to show the baby over the gate to them making sure every so often they would get to see her up close and smell her.

I was amazed of what connection my baby and our beagles have developed and how much they love her and look out for her.
I’m not saying that this steps I took are 100% proof and that will work for everyone. But maybe it will help someone out there.

Well that is all for right now. Let me know how it goes. Be patient. And also let me know if you have any questions.
